The Mendip Conservation Advisory Panel met this afternoon and gave a welcome to an expanded Conservation Area for Street. In the centre the area would now include the Parish Churchyard and Bowlingreen Mill, the frontage of Strode and Crispin, and the buildings all round the Cross (including the National Tyre place - not to be conserved, but replaced with something appropriate if they ever move!) To the west, the High Street up to Orchard Road is included, and so is the east side of Orchard Road.
Then there's to be a new area including the Tanyard, Hecks cider farm, the farm opposite the Tanyard, and nearly all of Overleigh.
If you want to see this on a map, go to the Street Society website and follow the link on the right, reading Google Map of Street. The blue line shows, roughly, the boundary of the proposed new areas.

This is good news. Congratulations to those who worked to achieve it.

David:
This is a long shot, my grandfather John Parsons from Lacock in Wiltshire moved to Wales and worked in the minning industry in the Rhonnda Valley. He married Catherine Llewellyn and they had several children. Are you any relation I would be happy to hear from you? Peter Re: Re: New Conservation Area proposed for Street

Thanks for posting the comment. I don't know of any relationship with that John Parsons. Parsons is such a common name in the West Country that it is hard to know who one's relatives are.
