A lively little free magazine came through my letterbox a couple of days ago, the front cover decorated with an attractive swirling bit of abstract art.
I must declare an interest, because I know the family who have produced this first issue, but in any event I believe it ought to succeed.
Its 32 pages include articles on a local photographer and a local artist (the woman who painted the cover picture), an account of a day driving a mini on a hill-climb at Gurston Down, a football trivia quiz, something on a local band, jokes (good ones, actually), news of the next Travesties Comedy Night (it's on Wednesday 25th January at Tor Leisure Centre, if you're interested), a book review (by a child for children), a crossword which I haven't tried yet but is called 'rather tricky' and features roads and buildings in Street, other puzzles, practical hints and a recipe with an interesting story attached.
Nick and Christine Parker, who have got a nice lot of advertising to support the magazine, are to be congratulated on this first issue. You can contact them at thebasis@01458.com . (Clever address, no? For those who don't know Street, 01458 is the dialling code for this area.)
