I had a phone call out of the blue just before Christmas, from someone who announced herself as Sarah Haynes from ITV West. Apparently they are running two-minute items on the local news about the origin of place-names.
Ms Haynes knew about shoemaking in Street, and divulged that their team of an interviewer, cameraman and sound person were going to the Clarks Shoe Museum in the morning on January 3rd; after that they would like to hear about how Street got its name, and also would like to interview someone who had worked in Clarks. Fortunately Ken Dunthorn has agreed to come and talk, and I know he is a natural in front of a video camera, because he chatted entertainingly to my camera about the history of Street in the summer of 2004.
I want the camera crew to take a shot of the Causeway between Street and Glastonbury, because it is generally agreed that the rebuilt road along there gave Street its name.
I'll post a report here after January 3rd. We do need a fine day - like today, cold but sunny!
