Ann Webb is Street born and bred. She went to the local schools, including Elmhurst when it was the Grammar School, before going away to university.
Coming back to her native village, she taught the Classics at Millfield.
On retirement, she and another Millfield languages teacher, Mrs Susan Monaghan, together with another old friend Marion Hicks, founded the Street Society. Ann became its founding chairman (none of this PC nonsense about 'chairperson' for her), and guided its course over the past four years. Having reached the time limit of four years allowed to officers by the constitution she retired this evening. The occasion was marked by the presentation of a specially commissioned bowl with pictures of some of her favourite things - including pigs! - and a message around the rim, marking her four years as chairman.
Terry and June Whitfield have retired from the committee, and Muriel Mudie and Ted Lanham have been voted on. Liz Bailey has transferred from Treasurer to Secretary, and Cathy Atkins has taken on the Treasurer's post. Mary Oliver continues as vice-chairman, and David Parsons has taken on the chairman's role.
