Two researchers have contacted the Street Society recently expressing an interest in Clemence Housman, sister of the famous poet AE Housman, and of his more prolific but less celebrated brother Laurence.
One researcher is visiting Street at the end of November. The other is working on a book about Clemence in Texas Christian University.
Clemence wrote three books, Sir Aglovale, The Unknown Sea and The Werewolf. She was a skilled wood engraver, and turned Laurence's book illustrations into woodcuts.
She kept house for Laurence for the whole of their adult lives, the last decades of which were spent in Street.
We look forward to two new studies of this talented lady, whom older people in Street remember as a black-clad figure walking in the village.
