A woman has died and two passengers remain critically injured after their car crashed into a tree.

The Citroen ZX - containing two men and two women in their 20s - was travelling on the A378 towards Taunton when it left the road on a bend at Fivehead.

It is not believed any other vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened on Saturday.

The dead woman has not been formally identified. The driver, a man, was not seriously injured, police say.

The two rear seat passengers are both critically ill at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 1915 BST.
