The Gazette reports a recruitment drive for firemen. A very worthwhile occupation.
These firemen don't spend all their time fighting fires:
Firemen based in Street were busy washing cars on Saturday in aid of the National Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund which will now benefit from more than £400.More.
I'm afraid a Street chap has been using a stolen credit card:
A psychiatric report is being prepared before magistrates deal with a 29-year-old Street man who faces sentencing for theft and obtaining property by using a stolen credit card. Once ready, Tommy Hogan of Glanville Road, Street, is expected to be told his fate for deception offences totalling £452 at shops in Bristol and Street.
More.
Two Street people are on the Morlands Advisory Board, apparently. They are Clarks' property director Chris Pleeth and Street parish councillor Tom Winn. More.
Planning decisions:
Mr and Mrs P Vinell have been refused outline permission for a house on land at the back of 27 Silver Road, Street.
A plan by Mr M Mackenzie to build an attached house and create new access at 1 Oakfield Road, Street, has been refused.
Planning applications:
Mrs P Bennett wants to build a bungalow on land behind 18 Southleaze Orchard, Street.
Outline permission is being sought by Mr R Yerbury to build two detached houses on land between 9 and 13 Overleigh, Street. (I've already commented on this one.)
Mr and Mrs G J and J B Hamlette want to build a single-storey utility and WC extension at 26 Green Lane Avenue, Street.
Permission is being sought by K P Martin Builders to demolish garages at the back of 35 to 41 Stonehill, Street, and in their place build a bungalow and garage.
Simon J Bennett from Glastonbury (i.e. a foreigner!) writes a letter complaining about Sainsbury's speed humps. I don't find them such a problem, but I do drive slowly. More.
There's another warning about con-men burglars in Street - ah, I see that's from last week's paper:
Street residents are being warned to stay on the lookout for a pair of deception burglars who targeted a house in the village that they had already broken into. At about 10.15am on Wednesday, February 1, two unknown men approached a property in Oriel Road, Street, and spoke to the owner.More.
